The goal: high teaching and study quality
To ensure the high teaching and study quality of our degree programmes, university-wide framework guidelines such as the Regulations on the Quality Management System in Teaching and Learning at the University of Göttingen (QMO-SL) and the Mission Statement for Teaching and Learning as well as the legal requirements for the accreditation of degree programmes of the Accreditation Council and the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG) are included and ensure uniform and binding standards.
The path: Our quality management system
The central elements of our quality management system are a combination of centralised and decentralised processes, the involvement of the entire university community, the dialogue-based integration of external expertise as well as closed control loops which are monitored and controlled by committees. All of which we continuously reflect upon and develop further through internal and external processes. Here is an overview of who is involved and how the system works:
The Quality Management System in Teaching and Studying
At the center of our quality management system (QMS) of teaching and learning is our dialogue-oriented participatory approach. It incorporates the entire university community, with clearly defined responsibilities, into the development and assurance of the quality of our study programmes. The goal is to ensure excellent teaching and studying conditions through a continuously learning system.
The basic pillars of our QMS are
at the system and control level and with central responsibility:
- the further development of the QMS,
- the functionality checks of decentralised quality management,
- discussions on future prospects between the faculties and the Presidential Board
- and the central evaluation of study programmes (examination and evaluation by
evaluation commissions and accreditation decision by the Presidential Board).
at the degree programme/faculty level
- • decentralised quality management (dQM) of the faculties,
- the quality rounds and the involvement of external experts as part of internal programme accreditation,
- as well as the planning of study programmes with the introduction, further development and closure of study programmes.
The foundation of the QMS is formed by
- The mission statement for teaching and learning,,
- numerous evaluations and data,
- the statutory and internally agreed criteria,
- as well as active, regular opportunities for dialogue and participation.
The overall system is reviewed and managed by the University's Coordination Committee for Quality in Student and Academic Services (KASL). It acts as a central development, coordination and steering committee.
